Rajesh has been a practicing lawyer since 1988. His areas of specialization include Financial Services, Commercial Laws, Real Estate, ESG, and Private Client Practice. He advises several leading foreign and Indian banks, financial institutions, real estate players, and corporate and industrial houses.

He has successfully led numerous negotiations and is often consulted on business solutions and strategy. He regularly advises on both routine and complex financial and commercial transactions.

Rajesh was a special invitee of the IBA and the RBI in connection with the amendment of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. He was retained by the banking industry for the implementation of the SARFAESI Act, 2002. He has also advised NeSL on the setting up of the first utility services under the Indian IBC, 2016.

He has authored and revised several books on banking laws and practices, including the publications of Late Mr. M. L. Tannan and S. N. Gupta. His legal research papers are regularly published in leading dailies, law journals, and reputed publications in India and abroad. He has also been a speaker at various forums in India and overseas on matters of legal significance.

Rajesh currently serves as an Independent Director on the boards of HDFC Capital Advisors Limited and Axis Capital Limited and is the Permanent Chairperson of the board of J.C. Flowers Asset Reconstruction Private Limited. He also chairs CII’s Banking Committee on Legal Services and is a member of several strategic advisory boards, including PL Capital’s Performing Credit Fund, the Task Force on Judicial Reforms 2025–26, a CII Subcommittee, and the SDGs Committee of SIDBI. He has previously held independent directorships with HDFC Limited and HDFC Credila Financial Services Limited.

Over the years, Rajesh’s contributions have earned him wide recognition in the legal industry. He has been featured among the “Top Managing Partners” in the Forbes India Legal Powerlist, honoured as a “Leading Lawyer Legend” by Legal Era, and named among the “Top 50 Legal Icons” and “Top 100 Lawyers in India” by Asia Law and India Business Law Journal.

His commitment to ESG and sustainability was acknowledged with a listing in Legal 500’s Green Guide 2024, spotlighting global leaders in the green transition. In the private client space, he has been ranked as a Recognized Lawyer by Chambers and Partners HNW Guide, named “Lawyer of the Year – Private Client” at the Legal Era Indian Legal Awards, and recognized as a Leading Individual by the Legal 500 Asia Pacific.

Most recently, in May 2025, Rajesh was conferred the Award for Legal Excellence at the International Legal Conference organized by the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) of India, in association with the Indian National Association of Legal Professionals. The award was presented by Justice Manmohan, Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
